This course is for people leading groups in remote areas, or participating in any outdoor activities. Being prepared to deal with any emergency should always form part of your emergency plan and you should be prepared to deal effectively with first aid related incidents when working in this environment.
The course has been designed to meet the content requirements of BELA, MLTE, BCU and RYA and is also an excellent program which meets the requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Scout and Guide Associations. Additionally the courses meets the recommendations of the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 for an Appointed Persons in the Workplace.
Duration:
A 16-hour course consisting of theory and practical work.Syllabus:
A range of subjects is covered including:
- Assess and priorities a first aid
- incident in remote areas, including multiple casualties scenarios.
- Deal with an unconscious casualty.
- Perform basic life support.
- Control bleeding and manage shock.
- Monitor and record casualties' condition.
- Recognise and deal with a wide range of common injuries & illnesses.
- Recognise and manage hypothermia and other cold-related injuries.
- Practice casualty immobilisation and evacuation techniques.
- Casualty handover to professional persons/services.
- Maintain first aid kits both for base & off site use.
Certification:
This qualification is valid for 3 years.
